Officials of Life Mount Edgecombe Hospital have brought to urgent attention to the dire changes at the hospital. All visiting hours for general wards, ICU and High Care units have been suspended. For the nursery and neonatal intensive care unit, there will only be one parent at a time allowed to visit new-borns. The parent will be subject to strict screening criteria prior to hospital admission/entry. In the pediatric wards: Only one parent at a time will be permitted to sleep in with an admitted pediatric patient. Similarly, the parent will be subject to strict screening criteria prior to hospital admission/entry.
Critically-ill patients: Visitors will be allowed, by exception, and only with the consent of the Hospital Manager. Visitors will be subject to strict screening criteria and will be expected to wear a mask for the duration of the visit. Neonatal intensive care unit: Only the mother will be allowed to enter the unit, subject to strict screening criteria on admission and entry into the hospital. For the Maternity Ward: Partner/father will be granted access for two hours on the day of delivery only.
These changes are effected with the full intent of keeping everyone safe in the hospital precinct, as well the families of medics, patients and visitors.
